Capacity Building Workshop Materials

On October 16, 2007, OMG conducted an optional workshop for current Pew Fund grantees focused on “How to collect, analyze and report data from the evaluation of capacity building projects.” This workshop briefly reviewed concepts introduced at the spring 2007 workshop (using a Theory of Change approach to identify appropriate outcomes and indicators to create evaluation plans for capacity building activities) and provided opportunities to go deeper into the collection, analysis, and reporting of evaluation data. Focusing on the four areas of Pew capacity building (Management Information Systems, Financial Management and Planning, Professional Development, and Program Performance Measurement), the workshop discussed select qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, including surveys, interviews, and records/document reviews. Using examples from capacity building initiatives, presenters engaged participants in activities to help them think about instrument development and practice analyzing data that could be collected from capacity building projects. The workshop also presented an overview of reporting and a brief discussion regarding presentation of findings using graphs, tables and narrative summaries.
