Evaluation Training

An established leader in evaluation training for non-profits, OMG has provided practical, hands-on instruction to thousands of professionals from more than 250 organizations. The result has been better program outcomes for the communities served by our clients. Every aspect of OMG’s evaluation training is tailored to reflect the trainees’ practice. Recognizing that the capacity of each nonprofit to collect, analyze and use data varies greatly, OMG customizes each training program to each trainee groups’ experience, ability, and interests. The training covers a variety of topics, including the purpose of evaluation and evaluative thinking; evaluation design; theory of change; outcomes and indicators; overview of methods; analysis of evaluation data; presentation and use of evaluation data; and building MIS for data collection and internal evaluation.

Workshops

Workshops range from two hours to two days, offering an overview of program evaluation or providing in-depth training on a specific evaluation topic or skill. Workshops are offered at conferences or as a stand-alone session.

Short-Term Training

OMG offers a customized, six-month training program beginning with a two-day workshop. A coaching period follows the workshop during which grantees apply the skills learned to their own organization's evaluation needs. The training concludes with an in-person convening to share and critique completed work.

Longer-Term Training

OMG provides three to four several-day workshops over a six-month period. Homework between sessions encourages participants to apply lessons to practice. Following the third workshop, OMG provides six months of coaching as grantees implement new evaluation skills. Long-term training concludes with an in-person convening to share and critique completed work.

Comprehensive Evaluation Training Comprehensive

This type of evaluation training is a two-year process. Using a classroom setting during the first year, OMG provides 10 monthly four-hour training sessions to a cohort of nonprofits. In the second year, teams implement a self-designed evaluation while participating in 10 follow-up sessions involving on-site technical assistance.

Funder Training

OMG provides workshops to individual philanthropic organizations and funder collaborations. This training focuses on how best to assess grantee progress and how to help grantees collect and evaluate data as an integral part of their work.

Regional Projects

OMG provides regionally-based training through philanthropic networks. In this approach, philanthropic leaders collaborate to fund an OMG evaluation training program for grantee organizations in their region. Training sessions help each organization - and the region as a whole - build capacity.
