Pathways to Postsecondary Completion: How Are Philadelphia Students Faring?
In this report, OMG, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia, examines the college access and success trajectory of Philadelphia students, using data from 20 area higher education institutions.
The first of its kind for the Philadelphia region, the study identifies a series of potential “loss and momentum” points that can help local students gain access to, and succeed in, postsecondary education. The report also includes preliminary policy and practice recommendations, and a technical appendix which includes recommendations for improving future postsecondary completion data collection efforts.
In January 2012, OMG’s Director of Research, Jill Gurvey presented report findings (PDF) to more than 20 regional college presidents, highlighting the need to increase acceptances and enrollments, and targeting persistence strategies to prevent students from dropping out after their second year. In March 2012, Sarah Singer-Quast, OMG Project Manager, also presented this work (PDF) to the Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable, a network of non-profit and campus-based college prep professionals.
